Fortunately Jamo cleared up that your playful banter is not prohibited.:p You'll be pleased to know that I'm trying my hardest to be on my best behavior and not to put obvious chunks of cheddar cheese on the tip of a big Victor trap for anybody.

Do they have to be die cast or metal or whatever? I thought Finish Line or somebody sold some plastic badges?

I'd PAY for metal, I'm just saying, lets keep some options open.

Agreed, but any chance we could get something with Rat Fink on it as well?

What a quandry!!!

Gotta be the FC-RER. Otherwise you'll get us confused with the original ERA cars. http://members.madasafish.com/~d_hodgkinson/ERAcars.htm

I can do metal. I assume ERA can as well. It's not terribly expensive, just specialized.

If someone has what they want drawn up any sheetmetal house can have a tool made and stamp them from any thickness of metal. The stamping tool for the embossing in an NC punch press would be less then 1K and the rest would be fairly easy.
I am in the precision sheet metal industry and we have stamping/blanking tooling made all of the time. Even up to 4 1/2" diameter.

Or you could have the shape punched out of the material of choice and have a engraving place engrave out the embossed area and could even fill it with paint if you wanted. For a low quanity this would be the best way.

I have been thinking about having some made up for my CR.

I may be interested also. Sounds like a great idea

Excaliber 04-07-2010 09:53 PM

...so where did Peter get those "stickers" he used on his car? Eh Eh, heck I could PRINT them out on my printer and use some glue, BOOM, DONE. :)

Print one big enough to cover that steering wheel emblem while I'm at it. Put a Rat Fink in there somewhere, maybe a yellow prancing horse with ERA below it (follow Gunners lead there). :) :)

tboneheller 04-08-2010 06:24 AM

Call these guys www.dowmet.com . They can cut it out of whatever you want on their CNC laser, and then polish, paint, powder coat, or chrome it. Talk with John Downey. He helped me assemble my Cobra years ago. As a matter of fact, they manufacture the quick jacks for one of the Cobra vendors. Tell him T-Bone sent you.

I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible. I propose these (with colors to be decided upon).

For the steering wheel, the hood/deck emblem will fit inside an aluminum housing similar in shape to the original plastic one.

Colors are a bit bright. I'd go with more muted red and blue - a maroon and darker Ford blue. Maybe even a buff or ivory background. You don't want these to stand out like racer decals.

Look into casting as well as machining. Shops that turn out medals, plaques etc. can do very finely detailed casting in most metals, which might be a more suitable look for a vintage vehicle. Billet... well, to my eye it never looks right on these cars. Especially not ERAs.

I'm in the foundry business. This would be a little too small for us but it shouldn't be tough to come up with a drawing & have a pattern maker make a pattern for you to have cast. Some small foundrys may do all of this in house. Cast them, chrome them, sell them. I'd be into Crome emblems for my hood trunk area.

Also, just though of it... There is a company I personally have done business with locally who does a lot of the same type of stuff that you may want to contact. Nelson Name Plate. I had them do some emblems for me a while back. Really nice people to work with.

Excaliber 04-08-2010 12:52 PM

What??? No rat fink? No yellow prancing horse? :)

Just stirring the pot, I like the idea your exploring the options Bob, good job.

You know that little ICON that shows up next to the ERA web site you save to your Favorites? It's blue on top and bottom white background in the middle, ERA name in RED letters in the middle on the white background. THAT is what I was expecting.

strictlypersonl 04-08-2010 05:59 PM

Ernie,

Larger block letters does probably look better than my layout. I just picked some boilerplate stuff off my computer.

I'm open to anyone's ideas. Aesthetics is not my specialty.

patrickt 04-08-2010 06:09 PM

I like the idea of doing it exactly like the AC caps, just change AC to ERA, but use the same kind of font/slant/look that they have along with the same coloring.

I couldn't have said it better. My thoughts exactly!

Excaliber 04-08-2010 07:03 PM

Ohhhhh, I think Pat is onto something there! An AC feel with the ERA lettering. I like it!

Bob, don't expect much help from me in the aesthetics department. :) I'll know it when somebody else shows it to me.
