I bought a well used car that need some TLC did some minor work on it and drove it. Not exactally what i wanted but affordable -- small loan to buy. After i paid it off the work really started and the money started flowing (total frame off resto with a lot of new parts and upgrades). The only thing left is to get it repainted and remove that eye sore of a hood scoop. I'm married with 4 young children and if had have waited till i could buy a Kirkham then i'd still be dreaming not driving. Maybe you should set you sights a little lower (cheaper) and trade up later -- you know baby steps. One day i will buy a Kirkham (sorry Patrick) but right now i got a bad a$$ little Cobra replica that is fun to drive and i'm enjoying the crap out of it.

67jet, similiar to what i did, bought cheap first time around, at least i got in a replica. years later, yeah, I'm pretty much buried on the expense but at least it was spread out over the years. Kind of like "self financing" along the way.

Forget building for now and consider buying used. There are a lot of pretty good deals out there on used Cobras. You can't begin to build a lot of them for what they are selling for (I'm finding that out). Later, as the market recovers and you have a few more years of savings, look at selling and building.

Some companies allow you tp [ay over time. You take deliv when it's paid for. It's a bit of a gamble unless the comp is solid

I had saved up and went looking for a Shelby, visiting the factory in Las Vegas, and went to see Superformance. But there was a three-year old ERA at the Superformance place in what seemed like perfect condition to me, for $10,000 less than the Superformance and $45,000 less than the Shelby. And having compared build quality on the ERA vs. a lot of other cars, it was an easy choice. I bought the ERA on the spot and have so far enjoyed it for some 12 years. The only difference is if you buy a Shelby you can tell people "it is real." I have to go through that whole replica story that most people don't get. But don't I care if they get it or not. I am having fun.

Took me 12 years to scrounge the parts and get everything ready for mine. Then a year to build it. I wouldn't change a thing.
