The story behind this curious arrangement is that, being British, the AC cars were nearly all built right-hand drive (other than the relatively few that were exported), so the dash was cut to provide more leg room on the driver side. When AC built cars that were left-hand drive, AC did not trouble to flip the dash template, so the dropped portion of the dash wound up encroaching on the driver's right knee! Jim Holden pointed this out to me.

Does anybody have pics of the dash on a RHD dropped-centre dash 289 car, taken looking along the centreline of the car?
Cheers,
Glen

Don't think so.

A dropped floor in an ERA would require cutting/notching the top of the main chassis member. I've never seen it done. The aluminum floor is then riveted directly to the rectangular tube frame rail. Jack can put less foam in the seat and the seat can be bolted directly to the floor (without adjusters) to gain an inch or two.

Thanks Jim. I thought I had seen somewhere that the floor could be dropped locally. I can't recall where though, I've been soaking up it from everywhere.
There are taller guys than me driving Cobras. It won't be a problem. Must say though, I am fascinated by the dropped-centre dash and that it wasn't mirrored in CSX versions (some would say I should get out more...)
Cheers,
Glen
