Default Fender Protectors!

I didn't listen to the advice given to me regarding Blue Streak "Rain Tires".
Yes they are sticky, and yes they do want to sandblast your rear fenders.
I applied material found on rocker panels that come from the factory. The type that leaves a orange peel like plasticized finish, and applied base coat and clear coat over it.

Now I am getting ready to apply the 3M Film many have talked about. I am afraid, I am not going to like the results.

Does anyone know where I can get Stinless SDteel preformed Fender guards? how do I apply it, and will they confirm to the curvature on my car?

On a dark car such as yours the black chip guard (at least to my ol' eyes) looks better than the stainless armor that some use.

If you start up R.S. 2nd Generation, maybe you can cut out the fenders altogether and make a "Turks Hi-Boy". Worked for 32-34's!

Turk,
Saw A real nice idea from a couple of the guys at the Long Island Cobra run. One of the guys wife, made fender bras out of vinyl. It was made to cover the front leading section of the rear fender. It was fastened using one of the tonnaeu
snaps and velcro under the fenderwell. Very neat installation. Also removable for shows etc. I will try yo get a picture.

Rock chips are just part of the deal. You'll never keep up with them if you drive it. Once you fix them on the rear front fender lip you'll see ten more on the nose somewhere. Unless you trailer it your going to get them!

if you want 'on and off' temporary protection for track or with the stone spitting tires , why not go to your local sign shop ( or whoever else supplies the material) and get some sheets of 'clear static cling' plastic and make your own. Stick them on when needed and pull them off when not wanted. I have seen them as temp stone protectors on rockers etc of show cars, rods etc and they should work well on front fender lips too. Guys pull them off when arrive at a show and put them back on for the transit, should work in your case too . Not much money and easy to use. Bill.

Great ideas, including letting the "chips fall where they may".

Until the newness of my car wears off, I think I will apply all of them on top of one another. Couple of times on the track (if they'll let me", I will take them all of and go for the Battle Scarred look.

If you want to race I suggest you get different tires. THERE ARE NO MORE KNOWN REARS like that.

If you want I will be happy to purchase them from you since we can't find anymore rear tires. Don't burn them off they look too good at shows...save them as long as you can.

Thanks for the advice. You are the second person to tell me that. I only put 100 miles or so on them so far, and I think I will heed you guys advice and put them awy for a while so I can quit whiling about the chip on my car, and save the tires at the same time.

Just out of curiosity...

Is anyone interested in a carbon-fiber spat? It would probably only fit the ERA shape. I suppose it could be painted too, but the carbon-fiber pattern looks cool . I already made a prototype "quicky" using matched molds - it comes out very thin (~.03") and finished on both sides.
I haven't figured the best way to attach them though - maybe with a very thin double-sided tape or some sort of non-permanent glue or wax.

Turk you can get them made out of black vinyl with a snap at bottom and torrnue clip at top they sell for 100 dollars a pair I have a set and they work great easy to take on and of in seconds. Snakepit automotive in long island have them.#516-771-8090 call ask for Dan o or his dad Bill PS who is building your motor

I for one would be interested in such a protector. As long as they have matching numbers

I understand any aftermarket add on that is not manufactured by ERA reduces the value of my car. I wouldn't want that!!

I'll have a talk with Peter on Monday. The hard part is taking a mold off a finished car - or doing the finish bodywork to a kit or my quicky molds (probably better). The prototype piece that I made came from molds taken right off the bare kit - a little tatty. I think that we'll probably lay them up with a layer of glass on the visible surface to give them a little extra "depth" too.
