Follow up on ERA 717 part 2

If I remember some previous conversations correctly re: Canton 8 qt pans, the pan capacity is 7 qt with the 8th qt being the filter, cooler, lines etc. IE an 8 qt system. Not sure if this is correct since my memory has more holes than swiss cheese anymore but worth some investigation.

There are several different Canton pans available for the FE, mine is the 8 quart road racing pan with the internal baffles, the other is the 7 quart pan deep sump pan 15-850, which for a kit car is too deep (7.5" vs 6")......

From the Canton web site for the 15-820 (note the reference to "system capacity")

"This front sump Ford 332-428FE road race pan is ideal for Mustangs or Cobra Kit Cars. It has a 6" deep, 13" wide by 10" long sump for an 8 quart system capacity. "T" style sump to increase capacity without losing ground clearance. This pan requires our 15-821 pickup."

Posted this on the oil thread as well: reposting here for future documentation of oil usage non synthetic vs total synthetic:

After 631 miles and less than a 1/2 quart of oil (10W40 non synthetic) used on the upgrades and repairs to the engine in ERA717, I am switching to MPT "Thirty-K" 10W40. This is a full synthetic motor oil and was recommended to me by my good friend, racer, and race shop owner in northern, NJ. He used it in his race car all season long with wonderful results, wants me to test it on the street in my motor knowing the documentation I did over the course of the first 631 miles. If it was good enough for him, it is good enough for me to take a chance with it. I'll post updates as mileage is put on the drivetrain.

I am using a Fram HP1 oil filter for this test, original filter was a Ford FL1A.

No other changes to the car other than valve cover and oil pan gaskets has been performed. Oil was changed at that time and I currently have less than 20 miles on it. Mileage will be put on the car this weekend while at the Rehoboth Beach end of season fun run.
