I worked with Doug extensively both before and after I got the car in my garage. Doug possesses several extra helpings of patience.

When and if you decide to put down a deposit, be sure to ask them to go ahead and send you a copy of the assembly manual. You will get hours of entertainment and education leafing through it while waiting on your car.
I purposely left some options/components off my initial purchase that would not be necessary while doing my body work and paiinting. I did this both to manage my expenses but also figured I might have to turn that initial invoice over at registration time for a sales tax basis and saw no sense in loading it up with every last nut, bolt and option. Then I later ordered my remaining items as I needed them. There is some advantage to ordering as much as possible up front for shipping cost purposes. I would not have wanted to order that rear suspension assembly separately later and paid to ship it by freight.

Very interesting thread, I´m also in the planning process for a future build and have many of the same questions and thoughts. The only other manufacturer I considered was Kirkham - but they don't make a kit, which is the only way for me.
I´m looking forward to following your build thread when you get started on your dream car!

Same deal for me. After seeing many in person, it came down to Kirkham and ERA. The main purpose of my build was to do it with my kids so I chose ERA.

Welcome aboard! This is almost like a real dream, where the stranger comes out of nowhere, and you're left wondering why was he in my dream? :)
Welcome!

I am wiith Patrick on this as a Chevy motor would be almost heresy. Given that their parts are cheaper.
I tend to like my engine and that was what drove me to my car. 468 CID Aluminum block and about everything else. Sounds great, runs great, and other than the wrong starter and a leaky shaft seal which has been fixed. I am a happy camper.

I think ERA has adopted all the little things I've complained about over the last ten years (like my clutch fork trimming thread). The only thing I can think of that would be really easy and cheap to add up front is to have a little trap door on the passenger side of the tunnel that lets you get to the front drive shaft u-joint for easy lubrication. Yes, you can snake up through the little brass e-brake coupling from down below, but I like to see all four seals purge out nicely. That's easy to do on the other five u-joints, but not the front one on the drive shaft.
Even if you don't go with dual roll bars (and that's ok), have them set the frame up so you can easily mount the second roll bar should you want to later. That's easily done up front, but much more of a pain if you do it later.

So i am sitting in VT on vacation in front of a fire with my laptop looking for this clutch fork thread you referenced. Well it has been six hours now and I have read most of the threads you have started. The good part is that i had some great laughs at all the back and forths with you, ChasEra, and Rodknock, the bad part is I never found your thread about the clutch fork trimming,
Can you give me some guidance?
Thanks...Dave

I have ERA #718 and had to trim the clutch fork. I had thought the newer (ERA 731 and later) editions didn't require trimming (not a big deal). Also be sure to get the Moto Lita 16 inch steering wheel. Looks way better and more accurate than the 15 inch and makes for easier steering. Look at my photos to see the difference. I had also thought of a big block Chevy originally but Peter talked me into using a Ford FE. More $$ but way worth it with the FE. Putting this thing together is half the fun of owning it. I wouldn't do it any differently if I had to.
