You split the Jaguar calipers, insert a spacer and build new crossover lines to accommodate the wider rotors. I had some difficulty locating the rotors as race shops were very pricey to make up custom rotors and the custom Jaguar shops like CWI are no longer around. I found a place in Australia through a Jaguar forum that sent me both the spacers and the rotors.

Back in 2005 or so, when I was spec'ing out my build, I am pretty sure I remember Doug chatting with me that for the FIA (and presumably now the slabside), the hydraulic TOB was the only real option. Since I was having a 427 car built, I didn't dwell on the subject. But I'll ask now, are you absolutely sure that the more recent FIAs and Slabs can now accommodate a traditional external slave and fork?

Good question, I am sure Bob will chime in soon.

In 2011, for ERA2136 (with QT Bell housing / Iron block 302), I went with an external setup from Mike Forte and it fit, don't know if things have changed with the newer ERAs. It was a generic kit, so I did modify the setup slightly to tweak the geometry a bit, to get it to work the way I wanted it to. The hydraulic TOB would probably be easier to install, and should be quite reliable as many production cars use them. The advantage of the external configuration is should it leak, it's a lot easier to fix than the hydraulic TOB. Just one more choice to be made when building a Cobra ...

Just a quick update. TKO 600 was delivered (thanks again everyone), engine should be back from the machine shop any day now, and making slow progress tearing down the rear end. With these projects it'll be a fun fall/winter! Oh, this also came today:

Hey Andrew, did that expansion tank fit on your engine? The heater hose barb looks too far back, like it might interfere with the distributer.

Otto, the tank came from Cobra Restorers

Larry, not sure yet as the engine build will be starting in the next month or so. Hopefully things work out.

I had planned on being much further along with the engine and rear end build but things keep getting in the way. I did talk to Peter the other day on some options which has me pretty pumped!

The Slab wasn't available when I ordered my car. Not sure which I would have chosen if it was. Great choice of car & company! I was on the west coast when I built mine & didn't make the factory visit. I have since been & its a lot of fun to see where it all happens.

*13*, I went back and forth so many times between the FIA and the slab. I still question myself every once in awhile. Just means I need to figure out how to build a second one

The early comp cars had flares to accommodate wider rubber. You can still have the best of both worlds

I have/had the same issue. I wanted to replicate 2142 down to the smallest detail but found that the wheels were $1100 each plus the custom made hubs to put them on the car! Leaf spring stuff is expensive anyway and you can spend huge money to get it right. Parts are much more rare too. I love the classic production small block cars anyway, so chose that route instead.

You can certainly go "too far". You can also make sacrifices & have something that 999 out of a 1000 won't be able to tell apart from the original car you replicate, at a "somewhat" reasonable cost. In the end, build what you want. Thats all that matters! These cars are a lot of fun, no matter how you dice it.

The tank on small block is offset so the barb clears. The tank goes "fore/aft" rather than "side/side" like an FE tank does

Trust me, I know the barb is offset but an original tank is different than the one from Cobra Restorers. The CR tank has the barb farther back than on an original tank.

Andrews tank may clear the distributor but it looks like it's going to be close.

That is a total bummer. I bought that from Cobra Restorers on the premise that it was, as their website states, "Accurate as original."
