Default Fuel sending unit used with Smith gauge

Just wondering which fuel sending unit to use with my Smith fuel gauge in my ERA. Thanks...

If you got the Smith gauges from us, it uses the same S/W sender as the S/W gauges:

Hi Bob, my sender has one wire from the sender. Can you tell me where the ground is for the sender and the gauge? My gauge is erratic once you start driving. Its not the fuel sloshing around. The gauge moves too quick. I'm thinking its a bad ground or the gauge. Thank You.

The tank sender is grounded through right through the tank - it's bolted to the chassis. We've never had a problem there. The gauge has its own ground wire. (Do you have the wiring instructions? If not, drop me a PM.)

If you can find a place to clamp an auxiliary ground on the sender (a screw or exposed fuel line) you can make up a ground lead with a couple alligator clamps and some wire and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks guys. I'm assuming you have to drop the tank to get at the sender?

'Fraid so. Personally, I would run a test first: Buy a new sender and connect it outside the tank. See how the gauge reacts when you run the sender through its range.

Thanks Bob, it turned out to be the sender. It was fine until you rocked the car and the float moved. Must have been a short in the sender itself. I did add an extra ground wire while the tank was out, but I don't think I really needed it.
