Removing front Hubs

Hi, I have a big block ERA and I want to resurface the front rotors. I have 6 pin drive wheel hubs which i need to remove before they can be sent for turning. My question is what is the procedure for removing these hubs. I don't want to screw anything up or make more work for myself.

Same as a typical 70's GM.

Remove brake caliper. Then remove hub cap and you will see a large nut with a cotter pin thru it. There is a hole in your hub that will give you room to remove the cotter pin, then just spin the nut off.

Very simple.

The only trick is to not over tighten the nut when you put it back together.

Might as well repack your wheel bearings if you're going to pop the hub out. And if you're going to repack them, you might as well just replace them.

Or Under-tighten the nut. Not a good thing.

Agree with repacking the bearings but why replace them (unless they show some sign of wear or weren't packed to begin with). They should last decades.

You know, you're probably right about that and whacking the races out with a brass drift is a PITA anyway.
