				Gas Tank

Can anyone tell me how many gallons of gas the tanks that ERA uses will hold? The gas gauge on the ERA 289 I just bought isn't working and I'm trying to back into when to refill the hard way. Also, safe bet that a 302 would probably be getting me around 10/12 mpg?

Thank you.

I have a ERA 289 FIA with 331ci SBF and 3.77 diff, I get 15 to 18 mpg around town, 19 to 20 mpg on the highway with TKO .82 gearing.

If you are only getting 10 mpg with a 302 variant there is something off on your tuning. I have a Keith Kraft 331 stroker in my FIA and generally get around 20 mpg, unless I do some highway cruising with the .67 OD gear. Normally run around twisty country roads in 3rd and 4th. 446 HP at 6000 rpm dyno chassis reading with 326 rwhp. AFR 165 heads.

With a 19.5 gallon fuel tank you should be able to get about 240 miles per tank full. If you are getting 10-12 with a 302 you must either have a heavy foot or the carb is not set up right. I am averaging 12-14 with a 428 with a rather stout cam.

I wish I got that. My 428 with a stout cam gets about 10mpg at best!

I can honestly say I have never checked it. Its kind of fun to pull into the gas stations and get the "is it real" questions. I am getting the answer down though!

It's not too hard. There is a drain plug on the bottom corner of the tank.

- drain the fuel
- undo the hose clamp in the trunk on the filler tube
- undo the hose clamp on the vent line in the rear passenger wheel well
- unplug the sending unit wire at the front corner of the tank
- remove the 4 bolts on either side of the tank and it will drop free.

With a 1970 Boss 302 updated to solid roller with 10.5 compression and 680
mechanical Holley double pumper I get 10-12 with a heavy foot. The 3:31
rear and .68 5th gear gives me 15+ but the heavy foot wins 90% of the time.

The ERA website lists 19.5 gallons for the FIA and 14.5 gallons for the slab side. I don't know which car you have.

My 427SC will only hold 18 gallans, despite the ERA stated capacity of 19.5.
