ERA emergency brake
Background: I recently moved homes so I am without my 4 post lift.
When my 289 fia with the jag rear was transported recently the emergency brake must have got snagged somehow because it no longer works. Feels like the cable disconnect/snapped?
I tried to jack her up today to take a look but I didn’t get a great look before I decided I didn’t want to crawl under without a better set up.
Any suggestions as what the likely issue is?

Best approach is to pull the seats and the transmission cover. You won't need a lift for that although it's a fair amount of work. There are a couple of clevis/cable attachments in the system so maybe one of them has had the locking pin fall out.

Did you transport personally or hire someone? If you hired someone they may have pulled it to tight and snapped the cable when they applied it.

If someone pulled hard enough to pull the cable apart, they must have had experience with another kit. Ours just doesn't need that much effort to work.  |

I am finally getting around to replacing my snapped emergency brake cable;
I received a replacement brake cable as shown in the previous 2 pictures; the top one is replacement one; the shaft if 4-5" shorter than the existing one; is there any way that the replacement cable will work? does the old one get stretched out? but the shaft, that is the plastic sheath, that doesn't get stretched out, right? (was fired up to change out tonight/this weekend).

That doesn't look like a cable we ever used. If there is a motorcycle shop near you, they may be able to repair yours or fabricate a duplicate. (They frequently make their own clutch cables.)
I just looked through the original sales invoice and while the compensator for the cable was listed, the cable was not. Figure that one out...

I couldn’t find any shop to repair my cable but I did find Dorman emergency brake kit (part number 21119). I installed it and it seems to be working for now. Need to get the car back together and on the ground to see how well it works.
The replacement cable is lighter gauge than the existing one and don’t love how one end of the cable is secured. Not ideal but I think it may work.
