I didn't change the connection. Just unplug the original box and plug in the spare that I strap to it with a velcro strap. The few times I've had a problem I was able to eliminate the MSD box as the cause by simply switching to the spare box.

Yeah,. but you need to have quick connectors installed to do this efficiently

Yeah,. but you need to have quick connectors installed to do this efficiently. I do not have these connecters; my setup is all hardwired

Sure, this first photo is what I carry in the trunk - the spare MSD box and a strap. I said earlier it was a velcro strap, but I didn't remember that correctly as it's been a number of years since I've used it. I stuck some hard foam pieces I had in my junk drawer to serve as spacers to the bottom of the MSD box.
The photo below shows it mounted to the original MSD box, which is under the dash below the glove box. The original box is rubber mounted to reduce vibration and provides the space for the strap. Not much to this really...

I'm a big fan of Weather Pack for their weatherproof connectors, have been using them for 30+ years without an issue in a variety of vehicles, cars, boats, motorcycles, etc.
Do it once, do it right, and you'll never have to do it again.

It's usually the 6 AL Box. when they are old after they get warm they lose Their spark

Thanks Bill, I have heard of those and they are supposed to be the Cadillac! just looked at the pricing, too much for my blood. If this was out in the weather I might consider it. I do a pretty nice job with connectors including shrink tube. then when i hook the connectors together, I will enclose it with electrical tape with a dab of electrical grease on the joint

Yeah Doug, me too! Now you have me thinking. I have a brand new unit I bought on eBay like 8 years ago. It is still in the box, would you consider this an "old unit", or would it mean that it has been in service for the 8 years?

Painless has connectors that may be more to your budgetary needs.

Me personally, I only want to do wiring once, best to do it right the first time and never worry about them again. Or in the case of my cobras or my old race cars, better to make it simple and easy to remove and replace components when necessary. In the case of a MSD box, just remember what is running through them, then decide whether you want to spend a little more, or not. Again, your car, your choice.

If you can change a light bulb, check your oil, or put gas in your car(s), you can assemble a painless quick connect assembly. It is not rocket science.
