Default Weber Clearance-Calling Murt Farcus

Murt:

Have you ever shortened velocity tubes for 48IDAs to go along with a shorter set of stacks?

After listening (but not heeding) PEPI's advice to either:

a) drill a hole throught the motor mount and put a bolt through it or

b) put a spacer under the trans mount.

I ordered up a set of shorter stacks from Inglese. I have an extra set of velocity tubes which now need to be "cut down". Again Pepi (between bites of some Italian Blood Sausage) has prescribed the following: "Just get out your pipe cutter, measure and cut it off."

...and do the shorter stacks and velocity tubes impact other carb settings?

Morty

Jim -

Don't know how much clearance you need, but, what I did for my 351C was to mill 1/4" off the top of the intake manifold. The 351C manifold (from Hall Pantera) seemed to have fairly thick pads under the carbs, so I was able to cut that off to improve hood clearance. I kind of wish now I had cut them at an angle like an FE, to give even more clearance and that "exotic look" of the carbs tipped on their sides (I was a little nervous about redrilling all the mounting holes, and what affect the "leaning-in" might have on carb settings).

Good Luck!

Jeff

Jeff:

Did you use shorter stacks, etc., or did you use the standard length stacks?
