Kristen, In the bottom right rear quarter there is a vent line for the fuel tank. Find the line in the right inner fenderwell and maybe try a cheap canister fuel filter in line. Should stop a lot of the odor. Probably getting some overflo out that tube when you fill the tank then drive around.
