Default Soft Top ERA Cobra

Well, I'm starting to look for a soft top. Has anyone posting here gone that route?

Qustions: I have to sort of brackets (a hole extending out from just behind each door on a bracket) - are those for a top or something else? Also - what are the holes on top of each door for? (each has a chrome tube type 'thing' inserted in it) Sorry about the description - that's all that I could think of.

Since a I don't really want to travel a long distance to have a top made, are there any alternatives to that? Is there a web page around that outlines the needed material, etc. specifically for an ERA Cobra?

Thanks - no other Cobra's around here to look at.

Brackets just behind the seats are for the top bows.
Ferruls in the doors are for the side curtains. They have posts that drop into them.
The ERA manual has a section on fitting the top. A good place to start.
Because of the wide range of differences between different manufacurers it would probably be better to order the unfitted top from ERA and then fit it yourself. Additional tools would be a "set" for the lift-the-dot snaps.

Jams,

Do you know if your top would fit a Kirkham?

Hi Maurice,

I am told it will fit a Kirkham. I pasted my post below from the Parts For Sale section of the forum. It has more details. There are also a few pictures in my gallery. It has just been laying arounf my basement so lets make a deal.

To make a long story short, I bought a soft top and side curtains that don't fit my car. It is brand new and is of great quality. I wish the second one I bought that had the same quality.

I purchased them from Cobra Restorers who refused to return, credit or exchange the items.

Soft-top and Side Curtains: Asking 550.00 Retails for $750.00 -Check their website. http://www.cobrarestorers.com/

You will need to purchase rear bows, snaps, and front windshield bar.

The top is designed and manufactured by Robbins Auto Top Company: http://www.robbinsautotopco.com/homepage.html

As I found out a little too late, the top is designed to fit an original cobra or manufacturer that follows the original body style. This means it would fit an E.R.A., Kirkham, a late model Shelby and possibly a Contemporary.

There are a few pictures in my gallery.

E-mail me or reply if you are interested
Thanks for looking.

Hi, I'm new to the board, just became the proud owner of ERA566, I called ERA yesterday to report the new ownership & ask some questions and 1 of them was about the side curtains from Cobra Restorers, I was told by ERA that they didn't think they fit the ERA, I had also called Cobra restorers a few months ago (that's who assembled this car) & asked him about the tops he had, I was told the best thing to do w/the ERA is go for the ERA top setup as theirs couldn't be guaranteed to fit!, I was somewhat surprised but also impressed by the honesty!

To be gauranteed a top that will fit go to source. But if you want a good deal I have a top for sale.

Not to slam Cobra restorers but do a search on the forum and you will find more bad experiences than good. Buyer beware. I will never deal with them again.
