Default O2 Sensor Placement for carb setup

I have seen these placed in the collector portion of the side pipe, about the middle of the 6" section where all 4 pipes dump. The Bung was welded about 25 degrees down on the inside. There is a small sweet spot where the sensor will clear the body and not be lower than the side pipe. This same spot is all but invisible from all angles of view. Very easy to wire and install/remove the sensor.

As I recall the sensor is speced for a certain distance from the exhaust port (24" - 30"??), but you need a point where all 4 cylinders merge and this is the first location.

The O2 sensors can inserted and connected to an "in the cockpit" gauge for tuning the carb(s) primary and secondary circuits. Unless you change something, the sensors can then be removed.

Haven't tried this approach, but laying two digital voltmeters in the right seat, each connected to a sensor might work. Post results if someone tries this as it seems ideal for a temporary installation.
