For used an OEM adapter that was very compact and anglled the filre at about 45 degrees away from the OEM mounting base. I used it for years before going to a remote setup. It was used on a 460 engine in a Econoline and maybe other installs too. It does not have a thermostat in it but can be modified very easily to allow oil cooler lines to be attached with AN fittings and hoses. It would allow a sandwich adapter to be eliminated if that is what you are currently using. I would still be using it if my header fabrication had been better thought out on my part.
