Patrickt, your pictures were a wonderfull help and Bob, your thoughts on the yellow wire were all I needed to complete the circuit and all works as it should. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN.
Due to your under-the-dash picture, I now know what to do with that odometer reset thingy for my Smith's speedo instead of letting it dangle under the dash.

I rely on my odometer more than my fuel gauge for figuring out when to gas up. I just reset it at every fill-up and make sure I don't go more than 150 miles before filling up again (I get 10 mpg).
