Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter
(hello all, this is my introductory post. I figured I'd be productive with it)
I put down my first deposit on a roller about a month ago and am now putting together my motor and drivetrain build. I'm planning on going with a TKO 600 tranny and I'd like to upgrade the stock shifter to a Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter, seen here: http://www.steeda.com/products/steed...ter_tremec.php Anybody with an ERA, or other kit for that matter, install a Tri-Ax? How does it integrate with the ERA tunnel cosmetically - i.e. are the clearances different so that the tunnel or boot doesn't fit? Also, how does it shift the the forward angled reproduction shifter? |

I know that with the Superformance, the reproduction (dog leg) handle works with the Tri-ax. |
The only thing I'd be worried about is whether the handle bolt pattern and location is the same as stock, so that our repro will go on without modification.

I have a Steeda TriAx and it fits fine. I am using a G-Force T-5 however, not the TKO-600. I am using the handle from finish line. It shifts very nicely, the handle bolts right on. It takes a few hundred miles for the shifter/trans to free up, but now its very nice, although I don't think a TKO will ever shift as nice as the T-5 does.

It's looking awfully tight there on my Kirkham for a Tri-Ax install. I would love to get one, but I get hives just thinking about removing the tunnel and re-riveting.

How hard to install on your spf? Did you just have to remove the trim ring to gain acess or did you have to remove the whole tranmsission tunnel. Whats your opinion on feel. How much shorter is the throw and how much harder is the shift? Thanks Quote:

Steeda says that their shifters have the shortest throw...not quite sure what that equates to in terms of throw. The throw is noticeably shorter, but its hard to say percentage wise. It's been a year since I started using it, so I don't have a recent comparison. IMO, the TriAx is easier/smoother to shift overall and the second to third is a lot more natural. |
If there's ever a circumstance where my tunnel has to come out (e.g., when the SOHC gets dropped in :rolleyes:), then I'll get the Tri-Ax.
