Default Another tire size question

Bob - rather than hijack Bill D's thread - do you see any problem with a 255/60-15 tire on 9.5 inch KO wheels on the rear? It's only about 5/16 inch taller than the max recommendation of 26.7 inches using your tire calculator. Should fill up the wheel well and leave a little more room behind for the exhaust system (undercar).

Thanks

Dan

We've never used that size so I can't say for sure. If I had to guess, I'd say a 90% probability of fitting. Note that the tire is pushing the limit as far as the rim width, which is supposed to be 7"-9" wide (per tire rack).

Yes, I realize the tire is a little marginal for a 9-1/2 inch rim. I was planning to consult with Tire Rack on that. However the 275/60 is too tall and the 275/50 too short and if the 255/50 doesn't work then I guess I'm back to the 295/50 steamrollers that everyone is running. Still trying to find a little extra room for the exhaust.

Thanks

Dan

Dan -

Don't know if this is helpful for you or not, but I ran 255/60x15 Goodyear Gatorbacks on 10" PSE (FIA style) rims
on the back of my ERA FIA with no issues. I eventually swapped them out for a set of the 305/50x15 T/A's.

Here it is with 245/50 Goodyears on the front, and 255/60 Goodyears on the back:

Yes, that helps. I can't tell a lot of difference in the pictures except the newer 305/50 tires look a little taller and fill the wheel wells more. The difference in section width isn't real apparent from the photos. I'm guessing the FIA fenderwells must have a little more room in them than the 427 car???

Thanks Jeff

Default Tire clearance

Dan -

I would have THOUGHT that the ERA 427 S/C body would have the same or possibly MORE tire room than the 289
FIA body. I would expect that Bob would be best qualified to answer that, in reference to ERA bodies, anyway.

Here are a couple shots of the tire/wheel clearace of my right rear tire from the rear with the 305/50x15 BFGs on a 10.0" wide PSE
FIA knock-off wheel. Sorry I didn't think to put a tape measure up there, but, as you can see, there is plenty of room on my car.

I THOUGHT I had similar pics with the old Goodyears, but could not find them.

regards,

Jeff
