Door panel Installation with a pull cord to open the door

Hi Guys,

I have a Gen 3 (I believe) 1995 frame and I have the black vinyl door panels and the horizontal pull cord to open the door latch. My EM door panels have velcro on the back to attach to the door, but I will not have access to the pull cord when the panels are installed. How is the pull cord made accessible when the door panels are installed?

My door panels each have a pocket with elastic cord across the top. The pull cord for opening the door is an inch (give or take) below the top of the elastic inside each pocket. That way the cord is hidden, but access is easy.

Hi Tom,

How do I "pull" the pull cord when the door panel is installed over it? Did you cut a slit in the back piece of vinyl for access? I tried cutting a hole in each end of the back vinyl and threading the pull cord thru it, but I could not get the screw in the door at end of the cord by the hinge.

Yes there is a slit. The two photos show the panel and an attempt to show the slit.

It's the passenger door, and forward is to the left. The cord is about level with the stitching just below the top of the pocket.

The pics help a bunch. I assume that having a vertical slit at both ends allows for access for installing the screw near the door hinges that holds that end of the cable.

To bad EM didn't use the normal door hardware. Having the cord reminds me of my Dad's 59 MGA, which had the cord also.
