Hello all. Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a 25 yr old Texan now serving in the US Marine Corps stationed in the HOT desert of 29 Palms, CA. Make no mistake though I'm headed home to Texas as soon as I can. I included a picture with my wife so a face can be put with the name. So the FFR bug has hit hard and for the past 3 yrs it's come in and out of my "I wish I could do that" phases. But when I recently got home from an extended 11 month deployment and I took a gander at FFR's site, their new GT-V8 Spyder grabbed me and said "It's time!" So hopefully this isn't a passing phase.

Plans as of now are to buy some time, purchase a 5.0 as a 2nd vehicle, and down the road when the Spyder has a retractable top I'll get the kit. I think I'd opt for the IRS, ceramic coated pipes, tubular front lower control arms, powder coated chasis, and body cut-outs. Although sense would say to stay with the reliable 225hp of the stock 5.0 but I really want to beef it up as much as a natural aspirated engine can. I want to run 315 series rubber in the rear and 275 front. I haven't made a choice on color but I'm leaning toward a solid color. Now it's time to start calculating, planning, and waiting.

So are there many of you out there who are interested in this kit? Anyone have one yet? Anybody in the High Desert area with a FFR? Look forward to swapping stories.

The 5.0 HO stock output of 225 horse is "OK" for a light weight car like the Cobra. It's enough to "swap ends" at the wrong time if your not careful. Now if I could just get another 100 horse, that would just about perfect, AFTER you've gotten used to the car a little bit.

Me? I want about 400 horse, I'm think I'm ready for it now. One Vortech Super charger coming up!

Hello "Bob" I have to say there is something strikingly Texas about the name "Bob"!

Take a good look around before you dive in. FFR makes a great car but not the only great car on the market! Pick the right one for you!

Semper Fi Devil Dog!

I am going on my second Factory 5. The first one I bought from a private owner out of California. Loved it so much and realized that I had to build one myself so I sold it and bought the Spec Racer. I have had to put the build on hold due to moving and selling our home ect. And I can tell you #1 the withdraws suck of not have a running Fakey Do Cobra, #2 Building it so far is as fun as driving them.

While I have had good luck with my Factory 5’s it doesn’t mean it is the car for everybody. Check around at the other manufacturers within your budget. Most are good and have something unique to offer.

Actually my first one was sold to a guy in Bryan, TX. He has changed some things and added his own personal flavor and the car looks great.

Ryan, I have family in Dallas right now whom I just went out to visit during my stint of leave. I grew up in Houston area however and still call that my home even though the deserts of 29 Palms Ca is my dwelling for now. Go Marine Corps! Looks like you are from San Antonio. Been there long?

Been here 3 years....grew up in the DFW area and spent 7 yrs previous to this in College Station. 29 Palms huh, I'm on a project for the marines...the AAAV...we hear alot about 29 palms...been up to Pendleton a few times for the program.

Kingwood...20 mins north of downtown next to Humble. Love that area.

Here's a question for all of you. I'm looking for my donor stang and one that I'll drive for a bit. What are some point to look for on a used 5.0? Should I worry more about engine performance mods or how many miles it has on it? Any key points to be aware of?

Default Tough question...

I think I would look at the miles first....miles affect everything...not just the motor...., but the ball joints, bushings, rear end, bearings....everything.

I replaced every servicable part on my donor parts (ie bushings, seals, bearings...needless to say, I went non donor! But I went the IRS and carbed route also, so non donor makes a lot of sense in that case.

If you are looking to pull it out of the mustang and drop it into the cobra....miles is all you'll care about IMHO. If its got some goodies on it, then great...but all that little stuff that wears out gets expensive.....
