Interested in an FFR

I was looking at an FFR ( mark 1 ) to
buy the other day. It has a 302 in it now
and I wanted to know if a 427 will fit in
without much of a problem? The owner
did know...

Yes you can fit a 427FE motor in to a Factory Five Mark I chassis, but it will require the installation of a different set of engine mounts.

You can get them from FFR for around $62 for the set. They are on their website. You will also need the FE headers and sidepipes too if the FFR your looking at uses the "J" pipes with the reverse mounted OEM 302 headers. Front springs are recommended at 500 lbs but some use the stock 450's with no issues. All of these can be purchased form FFR . HOWEVER EARLY MK1's are unable to accept the bigblocks without driverside foot box changes. These are the FFR's where the steering shafts goes through the FRONT of the footbox. Mine is FFR 1990 and is one of the newer MK1's to accept the big block with the steering shaft going into the side of the footbox. It has a fiberglass cover to hide the hole in the footbox the steering shaft goes through. I'm not sure what number FFR went to the new footboxes but my kit was purchased in 2000. So I'd check on the FFR number and have a look at that footbox first. If it's under number (1990k) take a good look. If your over my number it's fine. Gotta love those big blocks. Forgot to add yes the 427 will bolt right in with the FFR mounts. Now there are two styles of FE motor blocks. The early 2 bolt motor mount and the 65 and later 4 bolt motor mounts. My 406 has the early 2 bolt block and had to partially grind to mount to fit around the hump cast into the block. It's by the drain petcock on the early blocks. Hey Bill, any idea which number FFR started the newer MK1 footboxes? I'm thinking maybe around the 1600-1700's? Any thoughts? G.
