Default Factory Five IRS axles?

I would appreciate information on the length of the half shafts used with CV joints in the Thunderbird IRS setup?

I phoned a reputable axle manufacturer he told me they were 15" long, me thinks thats is not correct, but if they were more like 11" - 12" then I could use them!

Did you try checking at the FFR forums, I'll bet someone there like Larry N Johnson would have the info you need.

Ant,
The Factory Five pin drive rear IRS T-Bird/Cougar 8.8" axles are 15", but are that length for the reason of the FFR rear suspension design. The pivot point of the CV joints relative to your rear arm/hub pick up suspension points and shocks are critical to the life and action of the joint.

If I buy the IRS axles would it hurt my 1/8th and 1/4th mile times?

The answer is .....It mostly has to do with your set-up.

Get adjustable shocks and a few set's of springs.

There are many Mustang Cobras with IRS running low 10's ..... in a 3800 lb cars too.
