RodKnock - Are You Watching this Cammer Auction?
|
Dude!
Here's your chance! Just remember, on top of what ever you get it for, add $2K for somebody to hack and glass your footboxes and $2K for custom headers (not incl the sidepipes). Then you only gotta fab some fuel line and linkage and maybe some radiator plumbing. That assumes the front dress clears whatever chassis structure it may hit. You'll find a place for the alternator. (Prolly low down on the pass side). Just don't spin it to 7K-the bore .015 over is fine but not nuts about mains cut .030.%/ Then plan your drive to MA. |

He's not on the keyboard-he must be under the car measuring where to cut the crossmember.
|
Wow, this really is your chance to get a SOHC at a good price and leave some dough for someone to verify that the build was quality, rebuild the carb, modify footboxes, etc. Buy it!
|
Patrick,
Great find ... let's see what Rodney thinks ... :) |
It's a solid roller cam, I'm out, I've had nothing but trouble with those... :)
|
Just got back from underneath the car... :p
Guys, guys, guys. Cast iron block and heads? Does that sound like me? There's a complete original standard bore SOHC engine available on the FE Forum since last year, but I'd rather build one with the new Bill Coon aluminum heads and Pond block, maybe a CSX block. I don't care for the original parts. I'm a NEW kinda guy. Doug, hasn't stopped me before. Chas, exactly. The steering linkage will have to be rerouted somewhere too. Notwithstanding, I'm watching the auction. Who knows, maybe it will be one of those Challenger SRT8 auctions where it sells for cheap.  |
Non adjustable rockers (?) is adjustment made with lash caps?
|
Back in the day, on various FE models, hydraulic valve adjustment was made by installing different length push rods. I believe they were colored coded for length and readily available. No adjustment on the rockers, so it's not an unprecedented method.
I don't know how you would do it on a SOHC! Must have something to do with those lash caps mentioned. Original iron block and heads, yeah, I can dig it, just the kind of thing I'd like to run. |
I think some of the 426 Hemi's had adjustable length pushrods.
|
15 yrs ago I wanted one of these real bad,at that time the price was $20k and needing a rebuild.Still would like to have one just out of the question, the car is done and has enough motor, and looks almost as good!Dream along with me!

Nice Sawzall, but you can't come anywhere near my Cobra with it. Now if you know how to use a Cyclo polisher, then you're welcome in my garage. I've always been good at demolition too, it's the putting things back together that becomes a problem for me. :)
Ernie, I've gotten used to a nice light front end with the aluminum FE engine, so installing an all cast iron SOHC or any FE engine is not in the plans. I suppose if I were going to spend $30K +/- on an aluminum SOHC engine, I'd probably start thinking about what my next project will be with that money. Looking at Full Throttle Al's SOHC pic (which is embedded in about 50% of threads on CC), while beautiful and all, the money could be better spent elsewhere. Now, if a deal were to surface, then... |

As much as I want a SOHC engine, when you don't have Larry Ellison-type money, then you have to think about resource allocation.
Of course, if a deal happens to come along, you never know. |
That auction is a hot topic over on FEford now. Jay was saying that it's about $20K to $25K worth of stuff. Supposedly those heads and non-adjustabe rockers are a rarity and subsequently pretty valuable.
I'm with Rodknock, money best spent elsewhere.. |
Ford made both adjustable and non-adjustable rockers for the sohc, adjustable being the most rare. Valve stem lash caps were used for the non-adjustable rocker set ups.
|
RodKnock - there *is* a SOHC in redwood city available if you want one.
the guy is a good customer of ours and has one that is supposedly all there/set. it has been sitting in his garage for YEEEAAAARS. |
