Default NOS 427 side oiler block value?

What's the value of a NOS 427 side oiler service block (ribbed)? (Just the bare block only)

The condition of the cylinder walls and the bore - is it standard bore or has it been previously bored to the max - will weigh heavily on the value of the block.

It's NOS, so it's never been used, never had pistons in it and is all standard.

NOS means New Old Stock, an unused piece that was never in service. If it is NOS, there are a few FE builders around that still have some for sale, you might check with them to see what they are asking. I think the price mentioned in the earlier post is probably close. I'm not sure how the price was affected by the influx of all the aftermarket blocks. Since some have the C5 casting code and are much stronger, that should have made their value stabilize. A ribbed block is set up to use hydraulic lifters and has plugs under the rear oil passage plugs in the valley. Left in it is for solids, removed they will run hydraulics.

I paid $ 1750 for a NOS 1968 SO service block in '05.

NOS 427 sideoiler blocks are a gamble. I purchased several in the early and mid-Seventies that were frought with casting and machining issues. Get a guarantee with the block if you purchase it and check it out within a reasonable amount of time in case there are some major issues with it.

Givin the cost now of the Genesis S/O blocks, $2500 +/-, that would be my comparative block of choice.

Not such a gamble if you magnaflux and sonic check it before laying out any cash. The seller let myself and my builder crawl inside and out of this one before purchase. This checkout was done after we had rejected two of his earlier offerings.

The seller was a good guy that wanted to maintain his reputation and was happy to let us perform due diligence before completing the transaction. At this time the Pond and Genesis blocks had not been around very long and were quite costly and not yet time tested

I see nice used SO blocks for $2-2.5k. The good NOS blocks that check out ok are in the $4-5k+ range. Years ago the most I ever saw a NOS 427 service block sell for was $7500. This before the aftermarket blocks were out there at the peak of the market. No matter how nice/well made the aftermarket blocks are some guys just prefer NOS Ford stuff. And will pay for them.

Be careful with D8 SO blocks, a friend had a NOS D8 block in his tunnel port Super Gas Maverick he got 8 passes we found it was a soft block , put 8 sleeves in could never get it to seal ended up in the scrap.

I just know of a few that might be for sale (not sure) and was curious. I'll let you know if at some point I have some for sale. I wouldn't mind a spare sitting around for the future either....

Many NOS service blocks have needed alot of machine work to be ready for proper assembly. Gessford Machine can tell you all about it. They've gone through plenty that guys have brought in thinking that they just bought a "ready-to-assemble" block...
