428fe head gasket recommendations
What head gaskets are people having the best luck with?
I am using mr gasket ultra seal 5790g (dry) and they are leaking oil.
Edelbrock 7337?
Fel pro z1020?
Sealer or no sealer?
Thanks for your help!

At SUMMIT:
Fel-Pro 1020 costs $36.95 each
Ford Racing M-6051-A427 costs $37.88 for a pair.
It is the same gasket.

gary, if you have iron heads and an iron block the absolute best gasket is the ford steel shim, and engine enamel as a sealer. it'll take over 12:1 compression. hard to find but they are out there. for street the felpro works fine too, no sealer
cometic....101.00 is too salty for me and it looks like its only avail in .030 overbore for the 428

You asked for help about 'head gaskets' but you're talking VALVE COVER gaskets.
Back to the classroom.

Doug, The Cometic Valve Cover gaskets are advertised as aramid fiber. Not sure if they are available for the Ford FE or not. I can find out more about the Valve Cover gaskets if you want.
The Cometic MLS Head Gaskets are:
"MLS (Multi Layer Steel) The Cometic MLS gasket is comprised of three layers of Stainless Steel. Cometic uses Stainless Steel for increased strength, its ability to rebound, and corrossion resistance. The outer layers of the gasket are embossed and coated on both sides with a flouroelastomer rubber based material (Viton) designed to meet the demands of a variety of harsh sealing environments load conditions and surface finishes.
The Viton coating is resistant to 250 degC or 482 degF. The center or shim layer of the gasket is comprised of an uncoated Stainless Steel layer which can be varied to accomodate multiple thisckness requirements. The MLS gasket is ideal for both aluminum heads to cast iron blocks and aluminum heads to aluminum blocks."
FOR THE FORD FE:
A variety of thicknesses are available, and here are some part numbers for different size bores:
"part #C5833-040 for 4.080 bore, part #C5834-040 for 4.165 bore, part #C5835-040 for 4.250 bore, part #C5840-040 for 4.400 bore"

Don't dimiss "misting" for the source of your leaks. Look around your pcv lines for a brownish stains where it's misting out, use a white paper towel to wipe around the backs of the heads, etc. before you call it the valve cover gaskets for sure. And if it's just a couple to three drops after a hard run, ignore it.

Yeah, I need to spend more time on it. It is mostly after a hard run, but is more than 3 drops, but not much more. Since I am going to change out the pan in the next few weeks, which isn't leaking, but is only a street/strip pan, I figured I'd wait to chase leaks until after that. It's not bad right now and I could probably live with it, but I want zero leaks and naively believe that is possible. The oil adaptor block could also be suspect, but I don't think that's it anymore.
There you go Chas, how was that for a re-jack?

I use a Fel-Pro race cork gasket. I find that the corks will weep a bit, but still seal an FE better than the rubber ones - which do not work well at the intake to head interface. A dab of silicone at that joint does the trick.

The felpros seem to work well as head gaskets in this situation , but the edelbrocks should work even better
