Rear intake breather needed

Does anyone have a source for those rear intake breathers on the back of the FE intake manifold? It might be a long shot but does anyone have one they would sell? I could probably get by with a plate if I had to.

Hey Dean, you want the gooseneck breather, the blank plate or the plate with the tube?

dlampe 07-11-2010 10:17 PM

I am looking for the tall one. Patrick's link will get me what I need unless you had another idea.

This brings up a question. Is it better to have the intake breather or PCV setup or both? I would think if you tried both the PCV would not work correctly? Currently I do not have either just breathers on my valve covers but have been thinking of installing the PCV setup and plugging the valve cover breathers.

I'm running K&N breathers on both valve covers and on the breather tube on the front of the intake manifold. The PVC valve is in a plate (with a basket) in the breather opening at the rear of the manifold. It works well.

I had my machinist take a Chrsyler PCV valve (threaded) and mount it to al alum plate. He then took a 5.0 PCV breather (small wire mesh) and make a small cylinder of of steel with holes for it to breath. The assembly dropped into the back of my Blue thunder intake and was covered by the alum plate. This had a small rubber tube which went to my throttle plate. With the aircleaner on you can hardly see it. It was so trick! He could make you one.

Gessford Machine sells a nice PCV adapter with the basket. I think it was about $75 when I bought mine.

Doug also makes a quality rocker arm setup with shaft end supports. I'm running them in my engine.

How do you like the bushing that Doug makes vs the rolller ?
How long & miles have you put on them ?
Is there any ware in the bushing ?

Lots of ways to handle that area.

Remember that Ford went to breathers in the valve covers many years ago for a reason - vapors and moisture travel and accumulate at the highest point in the engine. That would be the valve covers.

Every engine needs some way to vent gases. A PCV reduces leakage tendencies and is a nice addition on a show engine. Race engines don't like the potential for oil mist introduction into the A/F mixture.

We've used PCVs back there - they work OK but are better in the valve cover. If you choose to run a PCV remember you need a way to get clean air INTO the crankcase as well.

We've run a welded up little K&N style element on top of a breather basket which works well and is unobtrusive when cosmetics are important.

We've run the factory style tall breather casting - a readily available Blue Thunder part which has been pictured. It also works OK, but can interfere with certain vehicle firewall/air pan/air filter combinations.

Barry- would you happen to have a photo ?

The PVC is a problem for me with the Weber's. I don't have a good vacuum hookup. I think I am going with a tall breather courtesy of a fellow member and a breather in my valve cover. Thanks for the help.
