Default erson rocker question

i am using edelbrock heads and erson rockers on my 445 fe build, i have the arp studs to hold down the ersons does any one know what the tourque spec should be ? i have them at 25 ft pounds now. there was no value on the erson instruction sheet?.

Check here: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_.../6000/6005.pdf The torque is different depending on whether you're using assembly lubricant or engine oil on the threads.

Default Torque

I have the same setup too, I used ARP lubricant an torqued mine to 35 pounds, just make sure you don't bottom out the stud before you torque the nut, because it will eventually jack the helicoil out, I found out the hard way. Just screw the stud in all the way an then back it out 2 or 3 turns then torque. Thats the way I do it Good luck

i looked that up it is 35 to 45 depending on the lube you use. thanks for the info.

Remember to use the AN washers that come ith the Ersons and not the fat washers that come with the stud kit. The fat washers will sometimes hit the rockers. Also be wary if you're using head studs - the top of the stud will hit the bottom of the Erson mounting stands - clearance required...

when i installed the studs i did tighten them with a small allen wrench, should i back them off 2-3 turns?

I don't think so! Maybe Brent Lykins, Jerry Clayton, or Keith Craft can help you out on this topic. Once I put my studs in I haven't touched them.

I have the same set-up as you. Mine were torqued to 45 pounds by my engine builder. If I recall correctly, Keith Craft, whom I purchased the heads and rocker assembly from, uses the same value.

For a 3/8" coarse thread into the head and fine thread on top it is 40ft-lbs using ARP Lubrication.

ARP like to see studs very lightly tightened. Many aircraft trained mechanics prefer to see them loose - unbottomed. I know of at least a couple high end builders that like to use a ball bearing in the bottom of a threaded stud hole so that the stud is not forced sideways by the threads as it it tightened.
