think on the lines of tq instead of hp,remember basis physics, torque moves mass, mass being your ride.just stroke the 428 and pull huge tq numbers and be happy with the 450 to 500hp number, weve dynoed many 428 strokers that pulled 400 ft lb at rpms as low as 2000,wow,power just off idle.now thats real fun.

Default There have been 4 articles in car mags. just done

jworrall J like others, I got to ask the question, WHY?? Have you every driven a 600HP high performance car? Gone to a driver school? Most Cobras have NO power brakes, power steering, ABS, tracion control, ( unless you use your foot) short wheel base. If you are going to build a motor for your car, build 600ft of torque. This will give you 550 HP and still be streetable. Gessford Machine, Keithcraft, Barry R. and about 1/2 a dozen PRO motor builders can make you a nice engine for your car with enought power to scare the carp out of you. Right now a have 514 HP and 535ft of torque in a 482 motor in my car. I have had to learn to drive the car different than wheen it had 368HP and 448ft of torque. Look up the old threads from Ernie (Excaliber) and his 600 HP motors and the pain in the butt it was. Look at what he's got now. Unless you plan to drive at 140mph all the time, build a torque motor. Torque moves the car not HORSEPOWER. If you look in Hot Rodding, and a couple of mags from the last year, Jay B, Barry R, Joe Sherman have all build FE motor. I think Barry Has his Engine masters motor for sale or part of it. There is another company that sells motors cheaper that the rest on this forum. I don't have any info on being good or bad, but I always go with the if it's cheaper than anyone elses, this makes me worry about cutting corners. Rick L.

rick understands the tq vs hp,he owns one.we have built many 600hp engines that the owner was either scared to drive it or they got hurt after wrecking the car,all because some article read you can build this monster 600hp Fe,if your racing, thats fine but for the street, tame the beast and you will be very happy with the drivability and power you have.just a pennies worth of my 33 plus years as an engine builder and yes predominately ford engines as well as a life time of drag racing experience.build-em and have fun.
