FE = Iron???
Just another dumb question, almost hate to seem so ignorant (again!)
Does the FE in FE series engine stand for Iron (as in the periodic table), or was it just a Ford engine family designation? :JEKYLHYDE Regards, Keith |

years ago it was rumored that FE stood for Ford/Edsel. By the way for those of you who dont know, Edsel was Henry Ford's son. FE stands for "Ford Engine" Take it to your grave.

Last time this topic came up someone else(sorry I don't recall who) said FE stood for F***ing Expensive. The deeper I get in my build the more I believe it's true. Steve

although i agree with jbaird,it has been rumored that it could have stood for ford engineering,that kind of goes along with the fact that robert stevenson was the chief engineer at that time.

convincor; remember, Wikipedia is just a collection of crap that someone decided to call fact. I occasionally use it as a jump off point to find more info but nothing more. I definately would never cite it as a reference. That's like saying "Joe down the street said..bla bla.... so it has to be true!", it just doesn't make sense.

It stands for Ford Edsel. Ford Engine makes no sense. Ford Engineering makes no sense. FE= iron makes no sense. None of those give any distinction to one engine family over the other. The FE was introduced in the Ford Edsel. It stands for Ford Edsel. |

Read a story on this website somewhere that told of a young engineer that took his work home as that was allowed then. He had just gotten engaged to his long time sweetheart so he wanted to send a telegram to his parents. Since telegrams were charged buy the letter he wrote FE in the scribbles he made on some carbon copies for the new engine. He was telling his parents he was Finally Engaged so only the FE was on the design papers and they just happen to copy to the description portion.
