i think it was around the time of the valve cover placed pcv the oil fill tube was phased out. i believe the start of the 1966 model year.
i would get a freeze out plug the right size and plug it. honestly i have a blue thunder intake on my car and i kept my hole plugged,(don't even go there)...
it tends to make fuel line routing a PITA with the tube there.
