I had a fuel line separate internally once. Engine was fine under light load but it would suck the line flat under high gas flow. It was a SOB to find.

It does sound like a fuel filter problem. Back when CSX 3121 was a member of the family, it died on me in the middle of the Tappan Zee bridge. The cause: the little, bronze filter that fits in the fuel inlet on a Holley carb was blocked. I disconnected the line, popped the offending filter out, and was on my way.
