Default Valve Covers

Questions:

I know the chrome pentroof VC's were on the first 427's, but:

Were there ever solid letter '427 Cobra' VC's on Cobras?

Where do the 'Le Mans' covers come from? Cobras? GT40 MkIV's?

Thanks,

Rodneym

THe LeMons covers were from the 428 CJ which was actually the engine most used in the 427 street cars. It was also used in the Shelby 500 GT cars of the 60's and 70's. To my knowledge, and I may be wrong, but the solid letter 427 COBRA valve covers are "come lately's" in the motor car game as are the 428COBRA and SUPER COBRA JET letter valve covers. THe originals on the 260 and 289 cars are the frequently seen "COBRA Powered by FORD" style covers.

Dan, not meant to be confrontational, but the 428CJ was never available in a Cobra. They were introduced in April of 1968. Regards, John O

Thanks for the answers, guys.
I was thinking the solid letters were not original (unless someone knows otherwise).
But, those Le Mans covers in Tom K's link...were they an homage to the 427's in GT40's???
I don't think there was ever a 427 in a Cobra that ever raced at Le Mans.
I believe only Chevy powered 427's raced GT class.

The pictured covers are Blue Thunder castings. And I think the term "homage" is appropriate....
