I wouldn't hold any particular manufacturer in absolute high regard. I had to return an aluminum block of the same manufacturer that you're speaking about because it was shooting water out of the lifter bores after a pressure test. 
As for Edelbrocks, I never use them out of the box. They are ordered bare, ported, Serdi valve job, new Ferrea valves, Comp springs, Comp retainers, etc, etc. |
