From a different perspective...
Remember, for most of us, these are just toys. Grown up versions of the Hot Wheels cars we played with as kids. If you look at it that way, then you don't spec your car to squeeze every last ounce of power or performance or mechanical efficiency out of it. I chose the old SFT cam of mine because I like the noise it makes, leather because I like the smell, six-pin drives because I like the looks of them when I pull the wheels. These cars are nothing more than fun little diversions -- just treat them that way.

No, my post is directly on point. FR65 is considering making a decision based on the sound of a component. You only do that with your toys. Fortunately, that's perfectly acceptable here... and I politely pointed that out.

FR65's question is about the sound difference of two types of cams. "You only do that with toys" is off-point.....again.

No it's not. Note Blykins response of "you need the hydraulic cam." The whole point of this hobby is that these are toys -- it's not what you need, but rather what you want. Just like being stuck inside of Mobile (with the Memphis blues again).

Sound check please. Testing 1, 2, 3.
Vector1's response was on point. Yours? Not.

My job is to make qualifications based on the customer's testimony, then build the engine.
Pete and I have talked many times, and although he hasn't ordered an engine yet, he has emphasized the need for durability, reliability, and the ability to drive long stretches at a time while cruising.
My recommendation would be the hydraulic roller...since it's a little more than a "toy" with this type of reasoning.

Actually - I like this comparison. And then you can throw in mild steel tubing headers and end up with.
solids -- tap-ping-harumpa tap-ping-harumpa tap-ping-harumpa
hydraulics -- ping-harumpa ping-harumpa ping-harumpa
