Default 14" Air Cleaner on FE ?

Guys, I have a turkey pan with 9" K&N W/ EXTREME top and wanted to know if anyone has driven with this setup and then with a 14" setup ? I like the way the Turkey Pan looks but thought maybe it would be better with a 14" drop base & extreme top ? What do you guys think ? Does it make a big difference ? I only have 1/4 inch clearence to the hood now.

Thumbs up

I probably have the same setup as you now and I can say that I noticed a small difference in the way the car runs (hot) with the extreme top vs. the chrome cover. It does make me wonder how much difference I would see if I went to the large oval without a turket pan, though I don't have access to one to try.

Let me know if you try it.

I did switch from a turkey pan w/K&N filter to a 14" and I am seriously considering switching back as I think the turkey pan looks great. In other words, there may be a performance increase (probably only occurring at higher rpm's) but it's not worth it to me.

I run the turkey pan setup and was wondering if the small filter was restrictive so the only experiment I have done was run the car briefly in a clean environment without Air Cleaner on carb, but with pan. Seat of the pants and rough time check showed no difference other than more intake noise. I think the cool air intake the turkey pan provides compensates a larger air intake drawing mostly hot air. I know Southern Automotive has strong opinions on the matter as well and they are firm believers in the pan setup. May be a different sotry in colder climates.
