Default Leak dye is awesome.

I had/have an oil leak and I searched around and it is very hard to identify where it was coming from. I bought some dye and a LED UV flashlight and wow what a difference.

Added dye let is idle for 5 minutes checked for leaks. Found some seepage from the left rear of the valve cover. Front (left) side oil galley plug was leaking a good bit. Used some teflon tape and the leak stopped. There is some other oil I am concerned about but I have to run it some to know. I also have an advantage that I have a drive on lift so I can easily get under the car. I actually ran it on the lift and could see the amount of oil coming out.

After testing some Superclean and paper towel and the surface was clean and "testable" again. Definitely worth the investment to have in the toolbox.

Bill, where did you purchase the dye? I have a UV light from an old AC leak unit I bought years ago. I probably need to try this on my old GTX plymouth. It seeps various lubricants in places I never knew you could have a leak.

I wouldn't use teflon tape on an engine. That stuff can unravel, come loose, then it's floating around under pressure.

Use some thread sealant...

You can also get the leak detector and lights at O'Reillys Auto parts.
