I'd rather have the NOS block. It's never been ran. Not a bad price either, considering you get a 428 crank with it.
|
I'll see what I can do money wise and contact him today.
By looking at the scuff marks, do the rods look like they've been balanced ? Thanks Brent. |
On which one?
Either way, I'd take the factory rods and throw them in the trash. You never know what they've seen and by the time you have them magnafluxed, resized, etc., you're in over half of what a set of Scats would cost. |

Plus, it's "Make offer". I'd start at $4k for all of it.

With like, 80 people watching the sale and other FE guys wanting this block, why hasen't anyone bought it ? I just tried to call him, had to leave a message. He's selling it for the owner, so I asked if he's available to get details. What questions would you ask him ? |

I know,..... but with 80 people so far,....watching the sale and other FE guys wanting this block, why hasn't anyone bought it ?
|
Yeah, with 83 people watching now and 25 days left I doubt the seller is willing to bargain on it. But I guess you never know!
|
Kevin, what you might consider is wiring the amount you feel comfortable paying for the block, and incidentals, to blykins. Instruct him to contact the seller, have a chat and, if he feels comfortable with the deal, to make the purchase on your behalf at the best price he can negotiate that is equal to or less than the amount you send him. The block, of course, should then be shipped to him. He can then build you the engine of your spec choices, using that block, and keep the incidentals that he does not use for you to do as he wishes and offset that against the final price of the build, which you two can work out, but I am quite confident you two can reach an accord with minimal posturing.
|
Or, he can just negotiate himself and if he decides to have me do the work later on, ship the block to me. :) I'm too busy to play escrow guy.
The questions I would ask are: 1. Can you take more or show more pictures. Most of those OTC NOS blocks are painted up like a show girl in the lifter valley. It's obviously a service replacement block because it has ribs on it, but I'd like to see more pictures. Last one I bought still had factory cam bearings and main bearings in it. Looks like this one does to. 2. You are advertising it as brand new, never run. If me or my builder gets it and sees otherwise, what courses of action do we have? 3. What's your bottom dollar on it? |
How long would it take for you to get to Justice, Illinois either by car or plane?
Nothing beats face-to-face meeting with a seller, especially if you have the cash in your pocket. It would also give you a chance to see it, touch it and take pics. It would also give you a chance to work out shipping to Brent.:) |
I do wonder why if NOS there is already an oil filter and oil pump mounted on it...

You see it as that.
I see it as extra stuff that I have to do that could potentially waste my time. He could send me money and we all pat each other on the back, then I can't make a deal with the seller and have to arrange to send the money back. There is no reason to muddy the waters with slinging money back and forth and back and forth. Kevin's a big boy. He can negotiate his own deals. |
Wow, a lot to mull over.
New Rods will be from $450-$550. The machining can't really be forecasted yet. Would need a complete set of heads. (really like the newer BBM's heads) Intake Carb. When I got ripped by the original engine builder, I had most all parts sponsored by some of the best part manufactures out there. I explained to them what happened. I guess I should pull my tail back out of my ass, and contact them again to see if we could again, come to a deal. I'm sure the editors of the magazines would publish the build again. I just hate to ask AGAIN..... Since the builder also stole my almost new,... hard drive camcorder..., tri-pod, bag and my Sony camera. So, there's a expense too. It was hours & hours,...working on the published build and with my bad health, I don't know if I could do it again ??? besides my other chronic pain issue, three years ago I had a problem with my diabetes and such a bad infection that my blood went "septic". Total of 24 days in our hospital. I was flown to the Mayo's clinic in Minnesota, almost unresponsive. The team of specialist Doc's told us that one more day without their aid, I'd been done for. The flight alone was $17,500. Total bill was $186,000. We're still working with the Hospitals, Doctors, MedFlight and insurance company's. (I love flying, but not that time) lol Years ago, we had great,...insurance, but 8 years ago, my wife's employer "Molex" sold to another billionaire family, and they changed to Blue Cross Blue Shield, and it sucks ! lol... All employees are pissed ! Sorry for the boring story, I just want everyone to know what I'm working against, and rather than giving up, I'm doing the best I can, to gain back my 'Sprit For Life". Getting my Cobra back & driving/showing, will help a lifetime :D Thanks for your help guys ! |

New Idea
Forget the 427 or my earlier suggestion for a 428. Go for a nice 390FE build. They're easy, look exactly the same as a 427/428, and you'll save a boatload of cash and stress. Blykins can build one of those for you in an afternoon and it will sound, look, and perform just like a 427/428.
|
Why not just commission an engine build to Blykins (or Craft Engines, or Barry, etc) and tell him what you are after and let them source it and build it for you.
|
The 445 ci 390 is a stour motor, and likevyou said, a lot cheaper. But, I'm one of those Cobra idiots that have to use what they origional cars had, which of course was the 427 & 428.
Same goes for the 514ci. 8k with 625 HP, but not a FE. Know what I mean Vern. ;) (I'd have to change out or trade a lot of parts, as I'm set up for a FE. Plus, I don't know if it would fit under my hood, fit in the trans tunnel etc.) ? 550 (+) HP/TQ is a must. But,.......the 390 is worth thinking about. Brent, apx.......what you have in a 390 and how much ? |
