If it's everything it's claimed to be, I would say it is a very good buy.

The problem is, I trusted a internet website FE engine builder and I get kicked in the nuts. But, I can not and will not, say that everyone on the net, on ebay and various forums should not be trusted.
My builder was respected as a builder and was known on a few forums that he advertised on. He also took my newer hard drive camcorder, tripod and bag. He said my aluminum side oiler block (and other peoples blocks)and parts were stolen, but he went through a divorce and had other money problems, but I believe he sold all he could get. I need to sell some Sprint Car racing parts and another toy I have to add to this engine build. We don't have the money we used to because of my bad health issue, Hospital bills and medications. I just can't put a low cost, mediocre, purring little kitten motor in the Cobra. The engine builder stole my "spirit for life" for 6 years, but I'm now ready to get back with building a motor for my Cobra, and back to a happy life ! :D |
That looks like a good price for a running motor, in comparison to everything else out there. You could always take it apart and make sure of things .....

FWIW, he was never respected as a builder. |

With my first FE, I had the Edelbrock Performer intake, then it broke a rocker shaft bending the pushrod inside, so with the FE, I had to tear it down. I did some other mods and bought the Air Gap RPM intake and it hit the hood, so I milled it down 3/8". It did not hurt the performance that could be felt. |
Hello Brent, thank you.

Something don't smell right here, but maybe I'm wrong and a great deal. Just ask Blykins what it really takes to build a true 427 old school engine.

Being a solid roller, I'd like to see the cam a bit larger, even for the street, but without real high spring psi.
|
I certainly wouldn't be able to recreate that build for $10k. When blocks are going for $4-5k just by themselves, I would expect this to be a collection of parts that have been sitting on the shelf....including the Venolia pistons which are very "old-school".....
I am pretty leery of factory 427 rotating parts because they have probably been abused for 40-45 years. I would not reuse factory rods and I'm really not a big fan of the factory $ crank unless they are specifically asked for by the customer. The cam isn't small at all. It would be pretty aggressive with a 427. I wouldn't go any bigger and would probably favor something a little smaller in duration. You don't want to pair a street car with street gears with a cam that won't play nicely. I echo the thoughts of some of the others.....it may be a decent deal, but I would absolutely take it apart and go completely through it, changing a few parts for the sake of strength/longevity. |
Not a side-oiler Kevin. The guy says medium oiler and side-oiler too. They can't be both... Be careful that you're not heading down the same path with this guy.
|
What is a medium oiler ?
I'll have him shoot a photo of the oiler side to see if it's a true S/O. Can't really want to afford a new block but, if that's what it's going to take, I guess that's what I'll do. hum..... I don't know what to think now ? |
Sorry, mis-read his ad... He say's a it's a side oiler with Medium riser heads, not medium/top oiler. My bad and poor reading skills. DUH.
|
I understand what a side and center oiler is, guess I don't recall it also being named medium, other than medium riser. ;)
Yeah, I know, it just means saving up more money, I want a solid motor. I'm hoping to find a great condition built side oiler from a honest man or one that needs assembled, so it's lower in cost. FE's are incredibly,....... high in cost !!! |

I'm turning 54 on the 25th. Hey, how about a S/O for my Birthday ! :D |
It's .030 over and he says no cracks. I think I would ask how they know it could safely handle that overbore and that there are no cracks and see if his response includes the words "sonic" and "magnafluxing" in it.
But, if it is what he says it is - no way to build a motor close to that for the money. Those carbs are probably worth a lot. |
I though that the S/O's were safe going.030 ?
But, last night I did more research and a few people were saying it's too much. I did with my 428 and had no issues. |
Dave, I'll call you, unless being so old, that you're still in bed !
