Default Weber Carb Intake???

I'm considering installing weber set-up on my 428CJ in Superformance Cobra. Is the 10 degree tilt necessary or just give you a little more clearance?? I've seen both set-ups on Cobras. Do the disc type air filters work or just keep out the "big stuff"?? Do they affect tuning??Will tapping a port in each runner and making a manifold for vaccumn be enough to operate power brakes?? THANKS!!!! Steve McD

Default 10 degree not needed

I have the Blue Thunder 10 degree Weber manifold and i can tell you that it is not necesary clearance wise. With the velocity stacks on the carbs I don't think it buys any more cleance than the straight up 90 degree manifold.

Webers offer almost no vacum and while I am not sure how much is needed for power brakes, i would be surprised if they would offer it. I ended up taking the vacum lines completly off of my setup.

Default

On our cars, the 10 degree tilt is necessary (with IDA's) to get the stacks within the width of the hood scoop.

Default Webers will work with power brakes

I had Webers on the 351C in my Pantera. I made a vacuum "collector" log out of an old fuel log. I tapped all eight ports, and ran then to this collector - I had no problem with pulling enough vacuum for the power brakes on the Pantera (fairly mild BOSS 351 solid-lifter cam).

I have Webers on my ERA FIA Cobra on a 351C with an automatic. I have plumbed lines to two ports and added a vacuum can hidden under the car - this has been sufficient to gather enough vacuum to signal the tranny to shift.

My experience has been that air cleaners on Webers will dramatically affect tuning and power. Some people estimate the loss at 35-50 horsepower (probably not an issue with one of those "big" engines , but, for us "small-block" guys, that's a lotta ponies). If you plan to run air cleaners, I think the jetting and set-up of the carbs need to take that into consideration.

regards,

cobrajeff
