Unhappy Ford Casting Numbers

Not sure if I have gotten the right forum but I'm the new kid on the block so please be gentle with me!

I have been trying to work out what my 302 originally came out of. The casting number on my block starts D90I... My understanding of the casting number system suggests this means it was cast for a 1979 Fairlane. I thought that the Fairlane went out of production in the early 70's so this doesn't seem to make sense. Can anyone help out a poor Brit?

Regards
Two Greens

Hello,
I believe the casting number refers to a '79 Fairmont, not Fairlane.
All the 302 blocks of that vintage are basically the same. Just make sure it IS a 302 block and not the wimpy 255 engine that was around at about the same time. Those blocks are useless.
HTH,

As you peruse this forum, say hello to Wilf Leek, another Brit who is a Cobra owning regular here.

Talking Thanks for that

Jack21 - thanks for that, I guess I am getting to be a bit of a fixture around here.
I know twogreens well from the Brit cobraclub forum, I always point folks over here to ask questions of you more knowledgable guys when it comes to your engines.
Lot of folk in the Uk who think they know it all, but really don't.
