Correct FE Plug Wires - Buying Tips

I want to swap out the blue wires that came on my car for black ones. Also looking for nice/tidy stand-offs to go with pent roofs.

Any do's or don'ts? Can these be bought at the local Pep Boys or Auto Zone?

I did check the search function - couldn't find this specific topic.

Original wires for the comp cars were orange.

I picked up the MSD 'do-it-yourself' kit,
a little time consuming but you tailor each wire and a have a neat clean setup. Kit comes with everything except a vise and razor blade, I like the gray wire, it dosen't stand out and make the engine bay look like a coloring book.

Important to keep in mind that if you are running an MSD type ignition box a spiral wound wire - not solid core - is mandated. Aftermarket wiring was one of the few concessions I made to underhood authenticity on 142. I finally settled on Accel 8mm Superstock black wiring.

If you use the stock plastic standoffs on your pentroofs, you will need to radius the openings a bit to accommodate the 8 mm as they were designed for the stock street 7mm wires. My original MSD wires were 8.5mm and were just too thick.

I have lost the part number. But one year (87?) the 5.0 liter Mustangs used 8 mm clip on wire seperators that will work perfectly on a Pentroof valve cover.

Here is an example of the Autolite wire that was used on many of the Ford HiPo cars of the 60's & 70's. (Ebay #2457916424, sorry??). It was not uncommon to buy the wire, the connector ends and fabricate your own custom fit set. Now the trend is to purchase a ready made set.

Tom - first of all, sorry I didn't say hello last week when I was on the shop tour with David - you seemed prettty intensely deep in thought - David said it was the balance bar problem with the master cylinder redesign you were contemplating , so I figured I'd leave you be.

I checked the Taylor wire website ...I do like the molded sparkplug boots, but it seems they offer red, and not orange - is this what most people substitute for the original orange?

I am running MSD, so I assume the correct wires I am looking for are
a) spiral wound wire - not solid core
b) 8 mm thickness
c) in orange.

Keep #7 and #8 wires seprerated in the run from cap to plug as much as possible .A sempathetic or parralel induction could #8 to fire with #7
