Default tunnel wedge clearance

Hi
Is any one running the dove tunnel wedge with medium rise heads on a csx4000 car ? I am thinking of going with the dove single plane, versus the dual plane ford dual quad I have and am wondering what kind of clearance issues I may encounter.
I appreciate help and opnions on the two setups, thanks,Tim

Mine works just fine, ream out the push rod holes if it's a dove, push rods might rub a little, mine did.

Misfit,
I have the Dove tunnelwedge on Shelby heads and had them on my old med. risers, but in an ERA. I have 2 1/8 " tall filters in the Stellings bases and they clear the hood perfectly.
I expect the CSX will clear as well.
Do as Perry says and clearance the pushrods, and if you care about appearance, remove all the mold flash from the runners. Might check the port match also. Mine was a mess.
Lets us know if Dove ships in less than 7 months. [Mine took that long]
Good luck,

Hi
Thanks for the help,,George at gessford seems to think I will have a problem,,but I have a hard time seeing it,I did find a new tunnel wedge for 600.00 bucks so I bought it either way,if it dosent work,I can always use my med rise dual plane,,but I would prefer not.,,thanks, again,,Tim

good,
if its possible,I would appreciate a measurement ,if you can get a tape or rule to sit on the top lip of the back of the block, where the intake center gasket sits,to the top of the intake base ,or carb mounting surface for the rear carb,,if it is not possible I understand, thanks,,Tim

Tim,
From the block rear manifold rail to the rear carb mount pad surface; 6 7/8 ". That's an iron sideoiler block, by the way.
More good luck,

Tim.......
These are several Images showing a CSX Car with the Dove 1X4 T/W and the a Midstates (much like an ERA or SV) with the Dove 2X4 T/W.
The SV, Midstates and ERA all built for about a 3 degree rear down tilt of the motor while the CSX isn't.....you can make some allowance on the mounts and even the Carb bases, the scoop may still need to be modified in the end. I have to assume the new CSX Series you've bought is going to have the exact design and geometry as the prior cars they've built. Remember the 1x4 manifold is a 0 base degree manifold for the Carb base and is located 7.25" up front and back while the 2x4 manifold is 5" in the front and 6.75" in the back and is about a 5 degree front base degree manifold and needs to be installed in a car with the 3 degree down tilt so the Carbs are close to level. If you're game for trying I'd sure like to see you do the combination as it works great and fits well under the Midstates I have and it would be great to document your installation and the modifications required if any......
George

Tim 2 4's look nice under any cobra hood. However you have to watch out that you don't get George's red light bug. It's in KitCar mag. The guy does great motor work and still redlights with an auto. I have a stelling air filter on my throttle body, but the throttle body is 1" flater than a carb. Go with the K&N air filters also. I can put a 1 " spacer under my throttle body and still have an 1" to play. Rick Lake

Hey Rick now leave George A. alone.

It was my fault, I got him hooked on that Georgia 'moon'.

He still thinks the moon is upside down in Australia. Hell how can you blame him for the occassional 'red light'.

And Gessford's is making profit!!

aaahaa..

It 'deep staging' gone wrong - shaking from the moon the day after??

Slow reaction times??

Or premature acceleration??

Have updated my gallery. Will have new photos once painted in late May. Goes in about 26 April for "Guardsman blue" and "white" the reverse of your car!!

Take care there. Take care of George now.

Cheers

Bernie

Rick....
Thanks for reminding me I had that Red Light against Pete Tork's 10.80 in the race for the final four for King of the Hill....so I broke out too......I had to have a perfect light and close to perfect run time to win.....and he's running my CHEVY motor to boot....what else could I do but allow my BEST customer and favorite Cobra friend to win..hahahahhahah

Bernie.....Just had four people from Hawera NZ here and they confirmed the Moon is upside down in Australia but right-side-up in their country....so there....take that!!!!!

Tim....
Rick's car is an ERA and that 2x4 T/W will fit just like it does in my Midstates Cobra...the CSX Car is built differently....that's the whole point....and the 1x4 T/W in the image above has been modified to fit under the hood...as I have the car here and spent time with a dummy Aluminum block, manifold and Carb to ensure I would have a good fit when we recently installed the motor in this CSX car. The 5 degree front manifold tilt is part of the problem and the lack of down tilt in the CSX cars....added together it's a challenge...

George

Hi George,

Good to see that you are getting things right for those guys there.

Now I must admit that it was your countrymen who went up there to the 'moon' to see if it was up the right way.

They didn't fall off so it must have been right way up. I apologise..

Unfortunately, I cannot make the 'Run N Gun' this year but I am aiming to get to the DVSF in 2005. I know its a bit off, but only yesterday I was reminded that it was over six months since I was there with you guys.

A little prior planning will see me in LA Cal. for a week or so and then a trip to Phoenix, Arizona to cath up with some Aussies for a trip to DVSF in London, Ohio.

Now that will mean a stop over with Wayne T - 'wtsnake' - in Evansville on the way through. Hope he will let me call in??

Then to DVSF. Well that's the innitial plan.

Guess I have hi - jacked this' Thread' a bit. So take care you guys there.

Bernie

Bernie Gald everything is work out on the car. I can't believe George let a chevy win Thank god that it was justa6 he was not racing. I think I have Georges problem figured out, He's looking at the wrong side of the tree I will make Dvsf5 for sure. I will have to wait on this year, got layed off, no work in the shop. but plenty at home on the car. New motor is put on the back burner for now. It's ok George Pete T beat me too I was not going to race Randy Sanwtz in that monster. I told Pete to put him in the right lane incase of another wall climbing problem. I have to pull my clutch, the disc is fryed. I will sent you that picture soon. George is also sending a care package Rick Lake

Hi Rick

I was amazed that Randy was able to get the Cobra back onto the strip so quickly after the wall bumped it.

It was a real commitment to racing and getting out there.

I cannot get over this summer, as the pressure at work has me at one or two key food meetings this summer ( our winter).

But I have made a promise to be at DVSF in 2005. At this time I may be driving Hershal Byrd's Cobra following him in his GT40. He will be doing a full re build during late 2004 and 2005.

So I will have a fresh Cobra.

Sorry to hear about work there. No doubt you will soon get busy again.

Take care.

Cheers

Bernie
