A short time ago I posted on the 429/460 forum to let all of you know that Diamond Racing had finally expanded their line of pistons for the 429's & 460's. I want to thank all of you who contacted us and showed interest in our product line.
Now, I have the privelage of letting all of the FE guys know that we now have a new line of FORGED pistons for all of the FE's!!
As with the 385 series, I realize that we're a little late to the game, but I believe that we are covering this family of Ford engines better than most aftermarket suppliers.
The pistons we're offering are for all the "stock" stroke cranks, (3.780" & 3.980"), as well as the 4.125" & 4.250" stroker cranks.
They will be in both flat top and dish, (street friendly for you stroker guys), and they will use either the stock rod/stock pin, or the popular 6.700" BBC rod/.990" pin.
Since all of the FE pistons are our newest offerings, we have decided to classify them for the time being as "non-stocking" pistons. What that means, is that we have done all the engineering, have part numbers assigned, and are offering all of them at a shelf stock price with pins & pin fit, instead of a custom price. There are so many different bore/rod/pin/stroke combinations that we couldn't possibly keep them all on the shelf. A 10 to 15 working day turn around time is requested for order processing on these new pieces. After we get a chance to track the sales of the most popular items, we'll start keeping the most popular ones on the shelf.
The engines that are covered are the 390, (4.050" stock bore), the 406/428, (4.130" stock bore), and finally the 427, (4.233" stock bore). Oversizes will co-ordinate with available ring sizes to keep things economical.
All of our pistons will be set up using "symetric" valve reliefs, and will fit all of the past production and current aftermarket heads. The trick here was to get the valve-spacing issue sorted out between the 390/428, 427MR/HR/TP, and the Edelbrock heads. We came up with a way to encompass all of the different valve arrangements so that we only have to run 1 valve pocket program. This way, all the pistons are interchangeable, and the days of the 4-lefts/4-rights - int./exh. valve pocket arrangement is eliminated. Any piston in a set can now go in any position in the engine! Remember, simplicity in design costs less!! We also offer domed pistons for the FE's, but for right now we're making all of them as customs for each individual bore/stroke/rod/cyl. head combination.
We have also tried to accomodate you street/strip guys with this line of pistons by lowering the top ring position and adding some additional crown thickness and deeper valve reliefs so that these pistons can be used with a larger than stock cam, and a blower/turbo or nitrous.
Now for the money part. All of our flat top FE pistons for any of the different bore sizes, with either the .975" pin of the .990" pin are $551.20/set, jobber price. Dished FE pistons for any of our listed applications are priced at $582.40/set. These sets will include pins, spiral locks, and are pin fitted.
Since we're not the best at updating our website, any of you out there that wish to know the specifics of what we're offering, please contact me via e-mail at
esimone@diamondracing.net and I will send you some spreadsheets of what we're offering, or feel free to call me between 8-5 m-f EDT at 1-877-552-2112.
Thank you all very much for your interest and support!!!
