390 punched .060 over?
I will be going up to Carlisle this weekend to look for a 390, and drool on any cobra I see, of course. Any way, if I find one, I will most likely be punching .060 over and stroking it. This may sound like a dumb question, but, when I punch it .060 over will I have to get larger pistons or just piston rings, or nothing at all? I will end up putting forged pistons, forged rods, and a 428 crank in it most likely. Any help on this will be of a great help to me. One more question, what kind of power can I expect with an Edelbrock top end?

Take your time there hot rod! First I don't think 60 over on a 390 is generally recommended. But to answer your question, you will need all new every thing.

A 390 at .060 over is not a real good idea. They tend to run warm when punched out that much. I would not recommend going over .040....
390 blocks are not real hard to get. Where are you located? I know several sources for rebuildable 390s...

390 +60

My Fe was a 390 out of a 1966 T-Bird. My engine is .060 over with no real problems noticed and thousand of miles driven. Engine heating was only a problem on hot summer days in bumper to bumper traffic. Replacing my 9 inch pusher fans with 10 inch units has relieved the situation. My understanding is that many 390's can easily take a .060 overbore but some cannot due to bore-centering manufacturing differences.
I'm in the Harrisburg area so give me a call to discuss or stop in to see the car.

I have decided to begin my search for a 391 FE truck block to do my build up on. Do any of you know where I will be able to find one? I will call to wrecking yards to see what I find tonight. Are these engines hard to find?
