Default What is this FE?

Is this a 390 or 391? Block #'s are D4TE (1974 Truck Engine) with a mirrored 105 and a 13 underneath that. Tag on the block states it is a remanufactured block with a bore of 4.0. You can see some pics at: http://www.capitalareacobraclub.com/...view_album.php

If I can get this engine for free, would it be worth rebuilding?

Catch ya later
Ed

390 should have 4.05 bore. There was a D4TE-AC code on the 390 in 1974 however.I suspect it is an FT series 391 and if it is I would avoid it.You would still end up putting more money in it than it is worth and 390's are cheap. chuck

It might have a steel crank. Grab it and look it in the mouth later.

Genuine FT 391's are highly prized. Because its a truck block, the bore will support overboring to 428 size. Maybe even 427 size depending on a good sonic test. Look for a larger than normal distributer hole in the block. A FT dizzy has a larger diameter shaft but a reducer will allow a standard FE dizzy to be used.
