FE Fuel injection question
Hi Guys,
I am thinking of removing my beloved 6 duce carb set up from my 428 and changing to fuel injection.
I have been to the web sites of TWM, Imagine Injection and Hilborn and they all look good.
I know Rick speaks highly of his TWM and I know a guy here in town that has a Hilborn (of course he's on vacation while this is eating away at my thoughts). I just wanted to see if anyone else has gone through the selection process and if anyone could point out some pros and cons to these systems.
I'm currenly using stock edelbrock al heads but plan to have them worked on if I go with the injection system. Also useing the edelbrock RPM cam and Harlan Sharp rockers. Pistons are 10:1.
Hope I've provided enought info for you guys to help me out.
Thanks

I think your harder choice will be which ECU you use, Electromotive, FAST, Haltech, MoTec, etc.

I like the TWM because they are 58mm, but Very Cool Parts sells 460 stacks as well. I'm planning to go EFI eventually, but first I need to get the car on the road. If you go EFI, you are blazing the trail and it will be a project with little help. Most of the aftermarket injection seems to be done by the small block guys. Drag racer may be a good source, but their programs will probably not be useful as they have a totally different purpose.
Here are some links to TWM and Very Cool Parts. TWM has a link (somewhere) to a number of ECU makers as well.

Dennis Mosley and ebustin I would go with a fast ECU. I have one in my car withsequantial firing for injector . I can also add fuel or change spark to each cylinder. I don't think that the others have this ability to do. Fast comes with a wiring harness. The sensors are GM Accel sells a 1200 cfm throttle body that will work for almost all engines up to 500 cids. You will need a laptop for the programing of the car. It's not the cheapest but i have had not problem with it in 5 years. I am building a new motor and will go with the TWM stacks and can still use the Fast ECU. You will need a crank sensor and cam sensor for the system. Most of the other systems are batch firing but still work great. Make sure that you do the math for the right injectors and have enough fuel for the system. You should have a 1/2" fuel line to the injectors and 1/4" return. I would also have a min of a 255 liter fuel pump to run the motor, I have two in the fuel tank because of the supercharger. Yo ebustin & Dennis,
I saw this earlier & you may be right: Pioneers
I use the Holley MPFI and it's a mostly DIY effort. Lately they offer a wideband mod which should make the thing lots - I'm waiting a while before I pony up another Cobra unit ($1K == 1 Cobra unit ) for the upgrade, but if you can get it included in the current kit it would be a good thing.
I use a 1000 cfm throttle body & 36 pound injectors on a modified Torker II. Going to 42 pound injectors soon...
Here's a pic
and another
The stack units cost more and look better

Did you ever get that EFI tuned right?

Yo Cobra75,
Well, as soon as I get the C-6 reinstalled, the power steering HP hose replaced, the rack moved up 5/8" and and and...
It's up to 10 mpg though
Tom
PS: Holley's just come out with a $1k (1 Cobra unit ) wideband upgrade to the MPFI. I'm going to wait another month or so to see if someone else'll be the poineer on this one

Give Lance Nist a call at Pantera Specialists (949) 250-1797 in Santa Ana, CA. He did a great job on my big block FE motor. See my gallery for pictures.

Thanks for all the info so far.
Anyone have experience with the system made by VeryCoolParts.com? Any experience with the Redline ECU?
I'm told the linkage is a lot smoother than that of the TWM system.
Would love some feedback on that. Will be contacting a few owners of both as I locate them.
Thanks

TWM
I have been using the TWM set up for nearly 2 years. I have a punched out 460 (now 522) and the 58mm TWM stacks....This system is controlled by the Electromotive TEC3.....I can not speak highly enough of both systems.... Gary at TWM has engineered this thing to be not only a thing of beauty but perform like a SOB!!
The newly designed center cam makes a very progressive and nicely driving system. The vacuum accumulator underneath and and pressure regulator set up make a fully adjustable and very well thoughtout system.
You can see my system on the engine builders web site... Go to www.badassracing.com Scroll down gallery on left side to Mike's Cobra...
I am setting up Electromotive's newest version of the TEC3 as we speak.... this system is a direct coil fire...crank trigger driven, distributorless system.... The software makes tuning fantastic!
Anyways....I guess you could say I am pleased .....if you have questions, e-mail me at mnoel@mecaenviro.com ....

You are so right, Mohuska. I have been running the distrbutorless, crank trigger, fuel injected system for close to five months now. It is a tuners dream and is so easy to set up. Once it is dialed in, look out! It sounds like those 58mm stacks are going to suck that hood all the way in to the motor. Trust me, you WILL like it!

Mike and Slither,
Where did you mount the O2 sensor. I have been told that because of the way most of the headers are made for cobras, this could be an issue.

Dennis,
My O2 sensor is mounted on the inside of the collector on the passenger side.
