FE definition
Hey Guys, I'm new on the block to the forums. Doing my research and been watching the forums for a wk. now. Guess it's time to chime in! Will be going to Carlisle this Fri. to lock in on a manufacturer. Anywho,, I'm Going to build a 500hp 427 fe stroker. irs rear, original looking as possible, but of course the stroker is the twist! To get to the point,, What the hey does the FE stand for? Thanx for any and all replies. WONDERFUL community you guys have here for me to join,,, Thanx!:cool:

FE as in iron FE as in ford engine FE as in Ford Edsel (I think this is probably correct) F***ing Expensive |

Thanx 4 your timely replies guys. The edsel thing is weird being that it's from the 40's-late 50's! Correct me if I'm wrong though? I've been stumped on this matter 4ever!

the basic design of the FE was introduced in the Edsel. yes, these engines have been around a long time.

According to Jim Dove the term FE means Fairlane Engine. Go to the Dove Engines site and poke around and you will find lot's of info on the FE engines and other neat Ford stuff.

The first explanation I ever got from a Ford source was Ford/Edsel to differentiate them from the MEL engines, but I read recently that some current engineers at Ford checked the records and the first mention of the family was Ford Engine. Looks like Ernie's right. :eek: :D

I'm in for the Fairlane Engine . The Fairlane started in 58 and was the full sized car of that time the FE series in 58 started as 332 cu.in. then 352 the hot factory engine in 61 was a 360 HP 352. In 61 became a 390 401HP , 62 406cu.in. 410 HP 63 427 cu.in. 425HP then the side oiler427 then in 66 the428 was available as an all out alternative to the 427.The 428 takes it's own dampener and flywheels( auto or manual).

"FE" was the abrieviated term for the orginal Ford "farm engine". These engines were not originally designed for passenger car applications.

I have heard many but I read Fairlane Engine in several well known reference manuals including Ford Total Perfomance , But ...... If you ever build one for racing you will be convinced it stands for Fu..ing Expensive as mentioned in the begining
