Default 428 oil leak

Help. I have a 1966 428 in a cobra. When I purchased the car I knew it had an oil leak. We, both seller and buyer, assumed it was a pan gasket since it was a gnarly original oil pan. I put an Armando's Racing pan on it but the mechanic replaced the rear seal as a precaution. It leaks as much as it did when I purchased the car. It leaves a slick the size of a dollar bill after the car is run to get oil temp up to 80 C. If the oil temp is below 30-40 C when I shut down it leaves a puddel the size of a half dollar. The rear of the intake manifold seems dry as does the area below the valve covers. Does this mean the transmission has to come out to check the plugs on the back of the block? (The interior would have to come out to get the transmission out). Would using 20-50 help the cause some? I live in the Phoenix area.
Your thoughts are really appreciated.
John

Hi John,
I bet it is still the rear main seal.
Good luck,
Byron

I sure hope you're right. Thanks for the thought.

Well, the leak has stopped. I took my wife to a Mexican restaurant last night 103 degrees outside, 15 miles round trip. When I got home both water and oil temps were at normal operating temperatures. This AM no oil on floor. I think the oil was over serviced. A new pan with a too short dipstick may be the culprit. The mechanic guessed at the amount of oil to use based on the capacity of the pan. Or may be the seal has bedded in.
